Reconstruction

Well it has been a very long time since I've been on here, not too sure why.  Maybe it because i sometimes want to try and forget that this ever happened to me.
But now i'm coming up to my reconstruction surgery in a couple of months so it's not so easy to forget.  I'm not really sure what to except from the surgery though. I'm having the DIEP reconstruction surgery  and i know about the surgery but not really sure what to expect afterwards and as it begins to draw closer the nerves start to kick in a little.
Would love to hear from anyone who has had the reconstruction surgery  or can give me a little insight on what to expect.

  • Hi @loz81. I so get why you want to put it all behind you. Think we've all been there.  @melclarity and @nikkid have wonderful photo stories along with quite a few others in the choosing breast reconstruction group. Hopefully they can help give you an idea of what to expect. Hang in there, yiu are nearly there xxxxx

  • Hey @loz81 as @nikkid said, absolutely connect with the Breast Reconstruction Group here's the link

Nikki and I had similar experiences, although my first weeks were a little rough as I cannot take pain killers, so lived on panadol osteo/nurofen. Like Nikki, I couldnt be happier with the surgery and the recovery. Check out the Stories, certainly lots of information there that I'm sure will help ease your mind :) Melinda
  • Hi @loz81 if you join the Breast Reconstruction closed group you'll find several examples of DIEP Reconstructions. I'm 10 weeks post-op and haven't regretted it a second. @melclarity had hers 4 weeks prior to mine. We have photo stories etc.

I was getting pretty nervous in the lead up to the surgery too, it's natural....but honestly, it's been so good. Difficult in the initial days but pain management helped. I got back to Pilates 3 weeks ago and I've been walking briskly on the treadmill for 30 minutes...building up each day. Next week I start running again.

Take a a look at the discussions and then let us know if you have any further questions.
