Reconstruction with pre-existing lymphedema

Whilst I am in a waiting game with a few dodgy blood counts I thought I would put this question out there. Has anyone had a reconstruction with pre-existing lymphedema?. I am planing a propylactIc mastectomy and double reconstruction with a tram/diep tissue transfer. I am not huge although the surgeon is confident of getting two small B cups for me. I will be happy with any cup. I did toy with the Skin from the back and small implant(lat dorsi) but apparently they "muck around in your armpit a lot" transferring the muscle from the back. Would love to hear from anyone with any info on reconstructions with pre existing lymphedema. I have had trouble finding any info on this. The lymphedema assoc of Qld have forwarded my query to a professor in S.A. But have not heard back. Keen for any info. Thanks Paula :) PS. I originally posted this on the reconstruction page, but thought someone here may have some info.
  • Hi Mich, Thanks so much for replying. Sometimes I feel like I am on an island as I can't seem to find any information on this. Not sure who's posts I read on what page but in case you haven't joined there is a private page called breast reconstruction with loads of information and photos from other ladies. My lymphedema was mainly in my hand and is really well under control. I still wear a short ( to the elbow) sleeve most days and massage every day. Am sleeping without it some nights now and have been out without it a couple of times... Feel like I am playing hooky from school when I don't wear it. lol Good luck, and yes please share any info you get. Thanks Paula
