I agree - I am 12 months post mastectomy and 5 months post radiation and really want to be reconstructed but don't know where to start. Surely we cannot make such a life changing decision based on Googling images and hoping the name of the surgeon is next to the picture. This method relies on surgeons being great web designers!
I'm sure we can all agree that we know that our treatment team are busy helping with our survival - but they don't have much clue on reconstruction. i fear that i will go to see one surgeon, who will do their big sell on how wonderful they are, then move onto the next one, and they'll do their big sell and I won't know who to choose. I don't care about bedside manner and who has less fees, I want to be able to look forward to the best reconstruction for me.
It's as though we need a system where we can, on mass send all the reconstructive surgeons a before photo, our size, the treatment we have undergone and when - and have a surgeon 'bid' for our reconstruction! It sounds like commercialism, but it basically is, isn't it?
