Reconstruction and mastectomy

The big day is here, I booked my reconstruction and today I will be admitted into hospital for my surgery tomorrow morning at 7am. To say I am a little nervous is an understatement I am terrafied of being on the table for 10 hours it is such a long operation. I am having my good breast removed at this time as a precaution and having both reconstructed (tramflap). I guess the up side beside having 2 breasts is I get a tummy tuck at the same time.

I have also been very blessed with my medical team they have answered every question even if asked twice, they have called me A/H when I have needed them and they have never rushed me at appointments and best of all most of my treatments have been done in at a private hospital and with this reconstruction there are no out of pocket expenses with the surgeon. So here goes ladies, I will let you know how it all goes.

  • Good luck today! I had this done last Sept. 9 days in hospital and it was hard... But, these new breasts are so worth it. I had the bilateral mastectomy and recon all at the same time so never had to be flat. I imagine that if you are going from a period of flatness it would feel and look even more amazing :-) Jenn

  • I am waiting to go into hospital to have the tram flap on both breasts. I am so nervous as well . Hope all goes well. Seems you have a good medical team , it makes a difference. What is your Drs name ? . So you are having it done with no out of pocket expenses in a private hospital?. I am in a private health fund and my Dr is doing it under Medicare in the public Hosp. I asked if I could have it done in the private Hosp and she said no, she would go broke doing it in the private Hosp. Thinking of you . Debbie
