On the home stretch....

Wow I can't believe it's been 3 months since my last post. So much has happened. I got through 3 rounds of FEC, and then 3 rounds of D. The side effects from D were different to FEC, sore muscles and bones, sore mouth (but no ulcers thank goodness) headaches, almost like the flu but worse, luckily it only lasted about 4 days. A few weeks later I had an appt with the radiation oncologist, my surgeon was surprised as they'd already discussed in their meeting that I wouldn't need rads. I went in thinking that it could be a possibility. The Dr went through all the statistics and percentages of my case, and said that the risks far out weighs the benefits, and that she recommended I don't need rads. That was such a relief, I really didn't take in anything else she said after I was just so happy, I'm glad hubby was there with me to listen. This brings us to last Thursday when i had my 2nd stage breast reconstruction, implants! It's now been 3 days and I'm feeling really good. There was a small amount of pain for the first 2 days, nothing a few Panadol couldn't fix, and today I've got no pain at all. And my boobs look awesome no more horrible expanders! Just got to take it easy for the next few weeks, no lifting, hanging out washing, sport etc. it's hard to believe only 6 months ago I was just starting on my journey, not knowing what lie ahead of me. Feeling scared, angry, nervous. It's a nice feeling to know that I can slowly start to move on, and plan for the future. I'm looking forward to going on holiday with my wonderful family and celebrating. Xo

  • I hope you have a nice relaxing break Bel. It'll hopefully give you a chance to recharge your batteries, and a change of scenery does wonders for those times when we're sick of looking at the same four walls. Enjoy spending time with your friend, its nice to be able to forget sometimes, just for a little while.

    All the best with radiation.

    btw i love your wig.

    Rach :)
