Mastectomy and reconstrution
Hi all i have the brca1 gene from my dads side of the family. I have been getting tested every 6 months since finding out i had the gene and decided to have a hysterectomy to prevent ovarian cancer but did not want to remove my breasts unless they ended up ever finding cancer in them. Now they found something in the last mammogram i had so i had a needle biopsy waited for the test results for a week to come back and they tell me they did not get any samples that way so i will need a surgical biopsy on the 16th February. A week later i go to my doctors appointment and he says the results come back and it is breast cancer a invasive fast growing cancer in my left breast. So i said ok looks like it is going to come down to having a double mastectomy and reconstruction so that is booked in for the 23rd March. And also there will be some chemo i need to have done and i have a appointment to talk about the chemo on Friday 11th of March. It is going to be a very hard time and pretty scared of all the pain and that i will have. But I think I will have to go through some pain before i can get myself better and once it is all finished everything will be good again. It would be nice to meet some other people with the brca1 experiencing the same as i am going through and maybe even meet up one day if we live close to one another.
