Mastectomy & Recon finished but???

Hi everyone, well after 13 days in hospital finally got out on Wednesday.... So happy to have had implants straight away instead of expanders now on the road to recovery.  BUT???? Saw my breast surgeon today and guess what they found another cancer growing in the left boob, so means that chemo didn't even kill this one and CT Scan didn't detect, as he said it was very microscopic and not always seen or killed by chemo.  So BS was very happy of the fact that I went ahead and had my double mastectomy.

So I guess I question all these treatments (chemo, radio, surgery) if cancer is microscopic what are the chances???? Now I will worry for the rest of my life that one little f*&^%^ didn't go through the lymph nodes undetected and will spread its wings somewhere else in my body!!!!

But for now onto recovery, have to stay positive and wishing that this is the last of my cancer journey!!

  • Hi Chris,

Lets hope that pesky chemo took care of any microscopic cells let loose in your body. If there were no microscopic cells in your nodes then that would be a great sign.  I have read chemo works much better on cells let loose in the body.  It's great the breasts are gone and you don't have that worry.

    Rest up.

  • Congratulations on your reconstruction. So annoying about the microscopic one...is it the same type of cancer as the one in the 1st breast or is it too small to tell. But great decicision you made...and know that for sure now. Best of luck for your recovery and moving forward post treatment.
