discomfort with the expanders

Ladies

It's been 3 weeks since my double mastectomy with reconstruction (expanders fill with 100ml)
ive just wondering if the feeling of burning (nothing dramatic) in the skin is normal and also the sensation that there is water moving around...
how long until you beautiful ladies feel much better? And all the discomfort disappear?
is it really bad the filling of the expanders?
thabk you for your responses... I know it's soon to ask for improve but... Hope it happens soon.
love
Clau

  • Hi @Claudia79, I didn't have expanders but completely appreciate the discomfort post recon. I believe that the pain of expanders is hugely relieved at exchange to implant. Doesn't help now put hang in there it will be worth it. Xxlouie
  • I was able to return to exercise by week 6. It hurt too much prior then...but you could do walking if you feel up to it. My physio advised against weights until after 10 weeks at least. I did warm water workouts so could do some resistance arm work and running. ...it really strengthened my chest...slowly did bits of breast stroke etc. Of course I started chemo around 6 weeks so couldn't  do that much after that ..just did what I could. Hope all goes well. Kath x
  • Thank u so much Kath! At least u put an ease my mind... It's just matter to be patience. It's just hard when you want to get back to ur normal routine, n this drags me down. But I should feel bless coz I'm putting a good fight. I would love to start running but I don't know when. Haven't ask my doctors although my breast cancer surgeon told me that I need to loose weight. Hopefully I can even with tamoxifen.

  • The burning is the nerves regenerating. ..unless you notice the skin red and inflamed. ..if that happens aee a Dr. If the burning gets unbearable see a Dr as there are medications that help. I used to feel the water moving around and I think it was just that ...moving in the expanders. My 1st fill was 6 Months later as I had 300mls in at time of surgery. It was 6 weeks until the discomfort and pain settled for me. My 1st and last expansion didn't  hurt ...just felt tight. But I had good strong pain relief ready if it hadn't been. Things will improve. Take care. Kath x
