Hi Ladies,
My op was postponed from August 22 to Sept 10 as Dr P got the flu! I ended up at Macquarie Uni hospital which was just great. The actual op was 13 hours for a bi-lateral DIEP flap. I was monitored every 30 minutes for about 48 hours, then hourly, then finally four hourly. I also had 6 drains in, the drip with pain relief button, a catheter and oxygen. The morphine made me also vomit on the third day so I suggest you don't keep pressing the magic button unless you need it! My blood pressure was very low the second day so the Physio didn't get me out of bed until the third day. The catheter came out the fourth day and I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to get out of bed, let alone walk on my own to the toilet! But.... Each time I did it became easier and I am truly amazed at the human body's capacity to cope and to heal. I was in hospital for 10 days. (I stretched it an extra day). I've been home a few days now and am still very tired. Everything exhausts me but I'm trying to walk outside each day and I hope to drive at the end of the week.
I'm also really happy with the results. I have nice round, firm high breasts, like a 24 year old, not a 54year old! I see Dr P on Friday for a check up. All my dressings were removed before I left hospital and the stitches are dissolving ones (except for the navel which had to be re made) Those stitches were removed the day I left hospital.
So now I'm looking forward to getting my fitness back and enjoy my lovely flat stomach in some nice summer clothes. See you at the Sydney Conference!
