Hi Vsam, it will depend on how large you want your new breasts to be as to whether you have enough tummy tissue to go around :-) DIEP reconstruction also relies on you having viable blood vessels in your abdomen, which can only be determined by having a specialised CT scan prior to surgery. This type of surgery is very specialised and there are only a limited number of plastic surgeons qualified to do this procedure and only some hospitals have the equipment needed. I was able to have my DIEP (single) at Prince of Wales Private in Sydney, but there are other places that offer this surgery throughout the country.
You might want to put some of your questions out to the members of the Breast Reconstruction Group (go to the pink Post button & select Breast Reconstruction Group to post), particularly about recommendations for plastic surgeons in your area that can do DIEP.
There are some photos of bilateral DIEPs in the Breast Reconstruction group pages - just go to the Breast Reconstruction loading / front page and under the sign Group Feed, there is the All Topics drop down menu. Scroll down this menu to Photo Stories DIEP and hopefully these will give you the information you're after.
It is a big decision to go ahead with reconstruction, so take the time you need to research all your options so that you feel happy with whatever decision you end up making. Best wishes, Jane xx
