Marilyn's not in my destiny

Feeling ever so slightly (or maybe not so slightly) peeved. With one of my kids likely to swim the Open Water Classic at Brighton, SA next year, I thought I would sign up to be a Marilyn, have a bit of fun and support the Cancer Council. Well, I was reading through the registration and got to the part about buying the swimsuits. Sizing a bit unhelpful with no size guide attached but what really annoyed me was that, A. You don't get to choose the style (and some are a bit plunging) and B. No option for breast form pockets. And this is run with the Cancer Council! Really???? And of course, no contact details to complain to.

That's a bit perplexing. Contàct the cancer councils marketing department if there is no line of enquiry with the registration.1

It is rather thoughtless, isn't it.2

Sounds like a marketing company on behalf of the event with no idea of what the physical implications are for some survivors of Cancer
Hope you find the contact to let them know hey, this is a reality not marketing1 -
This is interesting, I used to volunteer at the cancer council and know that while the event is sponsored by the cc it is run totally by its originator Sarah Tinney. No marketing department involved. Sarah has not had breast cancer herself , she developed and runs the event in memory of her mum . The event is at Brighton as she uses her own home as the starting point and staging area. I think she would be horrified that she had alienated someone who has breast cancer. A lot of women who participate are not actually bc survivors just supporters so it may not have come up. Can I suggest you make a comment on the Facebook page. I’m sure Sarah would respond6

So, I'm registered for the swim, have my wig, sunglasses and swim ring, just waiting for the swimsuit to arrive. Looking forward to it and hoping the weather will be kind (my daughter will be doing the serious 1.5km open water swim while I just bob the 400m around the jetty).
If anyone feels inclined to donate to Cancer Council through this, pm me and I will give you the details of my page, or of course, you can just donate directly.

Destiny realised... Hard work paddling but so much fun - I'll definitely do it again next year. And they've raised over $150,000 so far this year.13 -
