BCNA is launching our State of the Nation report on 20 June which many of you would have contributed to.  The report is the result of more than 10,000 surveys completed by BCNA members and 3,500 face-to-face consultations around the country and highlights the gaps in breast cancer treatment and care across the country.

We are looking for women who are willing to talk to media about their experiences and
are ok with being recorded or filmed regarding the topics below (as you can see we have some pretty specific requirements!):

Fertility

  • Women who were not given all the information
they needed about fertility before their treatment began
  • Centrally located (i.e. living in a city) - Ideally
    Melbourne or Sydney

 Lymphoedema

  • Women who have struggled to get lymphoedema
    treatment in the public system
  • Women who have had to pay a lot of money to get
lymphoedema treatment in the private system
  • Women who have had a lack of information about
    lymphoedema
  • Willing and able to have their affected arm/area
    photographed
  • Centrally located - Any
    state or territory

 Financial disclosure

  • Someone with large (greater than $10k) costs who
did not know about them beforehand – ‘bill shock’

  • Someone who almost had a large cost BUT was
advised by their Dr/health fund/BCNA etc and were able to avoid these costs
  • Someone with a large cost (documented) that
built up over time and was not disclosed to them
  • Centrally located -  Ideally
    WA or SA

Mammography in Tasmania

  • Someone who had a breast symptom and could not
get a mammogram in the public system, so had to pay for it
  • Centrally located

 Reconstruction

  • Someone who is waiting for a reconstruction in
    the public system
  • Has been waiting between 3-5 years
  • Ideally willing to be photographed in a way that
shows she has not had a reconstruction (not nesc. topless)
  • Centrally located
  • Ideally
    QLD

Hi there @marianna I could contribute to the recon discussion but I work so getting into Brisbane at short notice could be a problem. I’ve been waiting 2 years for recon but have been told it will be at least another 12 months. Let me know if i can still help. I did do the interview with channel 10 brisbane last year if this helps too. Margie.

Hey @onemargie, we have you on our list of people to contact if we get media requests. None yet regarding reconstruction in Queensland but hopefully we will :)

What's wrong with the Queensland press?! They should be pushing & shoving in a very non-orderly queue!
