Community highlights

Every week we have so much variety in the posts being shared on the online network.  These can include questions about treatments, updates on how things are going, and celebrating milestones. Here are some good conversations you might have missed: And caption this photo from @iserbrown:

BCNA news and events

BCNA's next information forum will be Tuesday 30 May in Albury, NSW. There will be two separate forums held on the day: one on early breast cancer and one on metastatic breast cancer. For more information and to register, click here.

BCNA will host a breast reconstruction information session in Melbourne. This a two-hour information session on Tuesday, 13 June from 6pm-8pm. It will feature presentations from a breast surgeon and a breast reconstructive plastic surgeon as well as audience questions. For more information and to register, click here.

BCNA has been awarded one of two headline charity partner positions for the 2017 Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. Held on Sunday 17 September 2017, the event gives people the opportunity to run or walk across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge to support Australians affected by breast cancer. Participants can choose from either a 3.5km family fun run, the 10km course, or the half or full marathon. For more information, to register, and fundraise in support of BCNA, click here. Or join @Cate64's team!

For those of you seeking reconstruction in Cairns who were dismayed to learn that there's a 7-year waiting list, there's a light at the end of this dark tunnel. Cairns Hospital announced that two local plastic surgeons and four visiting plastic surgeons from Brisbane’s Mater Hospital will hold a special weekend clinic in May for local women who have had breast cancer surgery and are currently on the waiting list for breast reconstruction. If you're in Cairns and interested in reconstruction, we recommend contacting the hospital even if you're not on the waiting list. You can read more about this here.

Give breast cancer the finger... bun! The Pink Bun campaign is underway! 100% of the sale of Pink Buns will be donated to BCNA to support women and men affected by breast cancer. I just had half of one (they're pretty big so share the love) and they're delicious. Say thank you to your local Bakers Delight for their ongoing generosity and support. Share your pink bun pictures using the hashtag #givebreastcancerthefingerbun.

Our friends at Berlei are designing and developing their first post-surgery sports bra. Berlei is seeking women to be a part of this process. Here's what they need:

- Women that have had surgery recently, be in recovery, or had had surgery years ago.
- Women that have a prosthesis or have had reconstruction.
- You must be physically able to attend workshops at the Hanes Australasia Sydney office, at Level 5, 52 Railway Parade, Burwood on the dates below:
  • Monday, 15 May from 11.30am to 1pm (12B, 10C, 14B, 12C, 10D)
  • Tuesday, 16 May from 12pm to 1.30pm (16B, 14C, 12D, 18B, 16C, 14D, 12DD, 10E)
  • Friday, 19 May from 3.30pm - 5pm (18C, 16D, 14DD, 12E, 18D, 16DD)
This is pretty exciting! If you're in Sydney, can and want to participate, let me know in the comments, send me a private message, or email policy@bcna.org.au.

Berlei provides the post-surgery bra in our My Care Kit. Berlei also makes the Chrissy Bra in honour of Chrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls, who passed away from breast cancer in 2013. 100% of the proceeds from the Chrissy Bra go to BCNA.
