A pen and paper will be an asset for you as once you write it down you will stop that panicky worrying feeling.  Take your pen and paper to any appointments and ask away.
If you can, take someone with you as a second pair of ears, or even ask if you can record the appointment for later reference as we all miss bits along the way or don't think of questions immediately.
If you add your general location into your profile you can be in contact with other locals who know more about what is available to you.
This can be a difficult time but remember that you are your own advocate in the medical environment so don't be shy in stating your case.
