Kate, 51 when diagnosed 4/12/17, IDC, wide local excision, 16mm, Grade 2 - 3, ER+, PR+, HER2-, nodes clear. Re-excision for margins found 4cm dogleg of Grade 3 occult DCIS. Finished TC chemotherapy 1/4/18. Family history dreadful. My mother had it at my age & survived. My younger sister died from it in June 2016 (I'm now raising her two kids as well as my two womb kids). Skin sparing bilateral mastectomy & DIEP reconstruction on 27/4/18 which found yet more previously unseen DCIS. Sad to see them go but no regrets. 5 - 10 yrs of Letrozole commenced on 1/6/18 and I'm finding it difficult with several side effects. Tested positive for the CHEK2 gene mutation on 2/11/18. This means I was at an up to 66% elevated risk for breast cancer, and am at a higher risk for colorectal, urethral and thyroid cancers. Oh joy. And if that wasn't enough for you, I also look after my 87yo father-in-law who came to live with us when his daughter died from a brain tumour 10mos before my sister died. With seven people in the house the council gives us extra bins for free...Member
