Health and wellness tip
In the H2knOwWe all know water is good for us. But here are a few reminders on just how important it can be.
- maintains the health of every cell in the body
- keeps the bloodstream liquid enough to flow through blood vessels
- helps eliminate the wastes from the body
- regulates body temperature
- moistens mucous membranes such as those of the lungs and mouth
- lubricates and cushions joints
- reduces the risk of cystitis by keeping the bladder clear of bacteria
- aids digestion and prevents constipation
- moisturises the skin to maintain its texture and appearance
- carries nutrients and oxygen to cells
- serves as a shock absorber inside the eyes and spinal cord
- Helps with weight loss
Are you drinking enough water? Adult women need approximately 8 glasses (2L) of water a day.
Here are some tips for increasing water intake:
- Add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice to plain water to add variety.
- Keep a bottle or glass of water handy on your desk or in your bag.
- Add ice cubes made from fresh fruit to a glass of water.
