Regional and Rural Information forums - We want your feedback!
The below post was recently added to the private group Living in Regional, Rural and Remote areas . If you are not a member of this group and live rural, regional or remote, please consider joining. (Refer to the Monash Modified Model (MMM) that classifies locations according to geographical remoteness via the link https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/modified-monash-model-fact-sheet Hi Members, BCNA will be delivering information forums to regional, rural and remote communities, more details on the locations and dates will be shared soon. Traditionally these have been delivered as full day events from 9.30-3.00. We acknowledge the current cost of living crisis, work and personal commitments might make it challenging for people to attend a whole day event. So we are hoping to get a better understanding on preferred timings from our members. If you could please take the time to complete this short survey to help with the planning of the upcoming forums. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=dgJVk0E5rkyacWRewHkFZW92LAal_5RAn6S9wZSqa_hURU9VU1NLNjlTWTlORFJMTTNHTlVFQlE5Qi4u163Views1like8CommentsUpcoming event: Warrnambool Information Forum, 28 March

Well, it's been a long time since I have been active here. Almost coming up to my second post op mammogram in October. I'm feeling well and coping with the normal discomforts from surgery. However at present I'm down in NSW trying to help an elder sister who has just recently had a double mastectomy. She lives in country NSW at a place called Grenfell. While her treatment in hospital during surgery I believe was good, I'm disheartened to find the lack of help or support organised for her since returning home. Her husband was simply told to call homecare himself and when he did he felt more like an annoyance to the lady than anything else and the conversation ended with no outcome really. I'm wondering if any of you have experienced similar in rural areas, is it because I live in a city area that my post care was second to none? Is there something we as a family should be doing. somewhere where we should be calling to gain help for her?1View0likes6CommentsMedia opportunity: Did you choose not to have radiotherapy due to travel/distance?
Hello, I am looking for women in regional or rural NSW and Victoria who opted NOT to have radiotherapy to avoid spending long amounts of time away from home and their family. I have been appoached by Daily Telegraph newspaper in NSW who is working on a campaign around rural health. They would like to focus on poor access to radiotherapy in rural and remote areas. The journalist I am working with is keen to speak to women in NSW or Victoria who opted to undergo a mastectomy (or double mastectomy) to avoid radiotherapy and having to spend weeks away from home. Ideally they would like to speak to someone this week. If this sounds like you and your comfortable sharing your story, please email media@bcna.org.au Alternatively if you know of someone who meets the criteria, please encourage them to get in touch. It's an important issue and one that we are keen to help raise awareness of. Cheers, Laura - BCNA Media Manager1View0likes2CommentsStaying positive
First of all, thank you to all the women who have posted. This has been very helpful in understanding what is going on as general research has been scary so I am constantly uplifted by the stories I have read from these brave, strong women. I also have stage 3 tnbc, have had lumpectomy and going for my second chemo today. Had a really rough time over the last three weeks with plummeting neutrophils and complications from recently diagnosed diverticulitis which combined put me in hospital for a week. I am 43, no children, and live remotely so have had to relocate to cairns to be closer to hospital for this next round. Have had just a little nausea, thank goodness, but the fatigue and bone pain and gut pain has been intense and have only had a couple of good days leading up to my next treatment. If there is anyone out there in far North QLD who also has tnbc would love to hear from them...I feel very far removed from anyone else with this. Thank you again for posting, nice to know am not alone.1View0likes12CommentsI'm going too
Hi there all My name is Cathy and I have only just moved from a place called Glenden which is two hours drive west of Mackay in Nth Qld into town (Mackay). I used to have to travel 5.5 hours to get to my treatment - oh the fun! I was diagnosed in Sept of 2009 and so far so good. lol I attended a conference in Sept of 2010 at the Gold Coast and it was awesome. Got to meet some lovely ladies and some exceptionally brave ladies. I am so excited to be attending this conference and to be able to pass on information we gather to others who are unable to attend. Is there anyone else from Mackay area that is attending? Where is everyone else from? I look forward togetting to know all of you better in the lead up to this conference and beyond.
