Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) have delivered a joint submission to the two major parties contesting the 2016 federal election, the Liberal/National Coalition and the ALP. The submission, A better journey for all Australians affected by cancer, calls for the development of a national cancer strategy in response to the increasing incidence of cancer in Australia. We support a national cancer strategy that addresses the full spectrum of the cancer journey – from prevention and screening through diagnosis and treatment to palliative and end of life care, and the need for ongoing research into treatments and a cure. Our submission uses breast cancer to demonstrate that, while good progress has been made to date, there is still much to be done. To find out more, please visit 2016 Federal Election Submission. Hello everybody, I just wanted to let you all know that registrations are now open for Pink Footy & Netball Day 2012. Our annual Pink Footy & Netball Day will be held on Mother's Day weekend 12-13 May 2012. Football and netball clubs around Australia will turn HOT PINK during their matches and raise funds and awareness for BCNA. BCNA's Pink Footy & Netball Day will run nationally for the first time this year, enabling more suburban and country footy and netball clubs than ever before the chance to come together in a show of strength and support for local women and families affected by breast cancer. Football and netball clubs around Australia will be 'pinking up' their clubs and hosting fundraising events such as sausage sizzles, raffles and auctions. Pink Footy & Netball Day not only raises money to provide information and support for our women, but it creates a meaningful way that clubs can get together in celebration and remembrance of the women in their club and community affected by breast cancer. If you would like to be involved, I encourage you to get in contact with your local football and netball clubs. Many clubs will be thrilled to hear from local women who have experienced breast cancer and involve them in their planned activities. If your local clubs aren't already involved, encourage them to sign up and support BCNA. Maxine P.S. Pink Footy & Netball Day has its very own fundraising website -- you can find out more about the event, and search for local teams, by visiting: http://bncapinkfootyandnetballday.gofundraise.com.au1View0likes3CommentsA legend running with hope
I had the pleasure of joining a small group of amazing women for lunch last week, here in Camberwell. The lunch was in honour of AFL Football legend Shane Crawford. Shane (or Crawf as we now call him! ) is donning pink joggers and running from Adelaide to Melbourne to raise money for BCNA. It was at the Channel Nine's Pink Lady Footy Show when Crawf opened his mouth and said he would run for us. We didn't know why we were the chosen ones but we were excited. I am not sure if Crawf had really thought it through! When we sat down to lunch this was one of the first questions the women asked 'Why us'. He responded "I couldn't imagine breast cancer happening to my mum." Of course we instantly loved him! I feel very honoured that I was there to hear the women sharing their own personal experiences and wishing Crawf well. He was clearly moved by what he heard from the women. Crawf said last week on the Footy Show that he was inspired and will be running with the hope and support of all breast cancer survivors. What a champ! The image of the pink twinkling lights on the MCG will remain in my memory forever. To stand on the MCG with my husband Brian ( who looked gorgeous in pink) my daugher who came down from Rockhampton and my daughter in law Jennifer who flew over from Adelaide as a suprise made the event even more magical.1View0likes1Comment
