Seeking Italian speaking women
Following the success of our first focus group held with Chinese women last week we are now seeking Melbourne breast cancer survivors who are from Italian speaking backgrounds to take part in a short focus group. We believe that women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are the best people to tell us what other women may need. We hope that by listening to women from Italian speaking backgrounds that we will be able to determine what is the most important information to have translated into Italian for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the future. The session will be held at CO.AS.lT in Carlton this Thursday (11 July) at 10:30am. Refreshments will be available and each participant will receive a $30.00 COLES voucher as well as a small gift to thank them for their time. There will be a female interpreter at the focus group. If you or a woman you know would like to participate, please comment to my blog post or send me a private email - mrose@bcna.org.au For more information about our program or to download the focus group invitation - visit the News item ‘Translating information and support.’1View0likes0CommentsBCNA Cultural Diversity Program
Hello everyone! Here at BCNA we are excited to have been busily working on the development of our new Cultural Diversity strategy. This is an exciting area of work for us through which we hope to improve access to appropriate information and support for women with breast cancer from diverse cultural backgrounds. We are currently developing a number of projects for women from Italian, Greek, Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic communities. A major initiative we are currently working on is the development of a series of resources in plain English which will then be translated into the five priority languages. We want to consult with women from these language groups to ensure that the new resources are relevant and culturally appropriate. To do this we are conducting focus groups in each of the five languages (these will be conducted in Melbourne and Sydney only). If you are from one of these communities and you speak and / or read one of the languages or if you know of someone who may be interested in being involved, please let me know. I would love to hear from you. Enjoy the weekend. Mikayla11Views0likes5Comments
