Thank you all for your kind wishes. Just got home from work to find the family all geared up to spoil me.10ViewsSign in to react to this post0CommentsRe: Trying to make sense of it all.....
@Janine60 I’ve just started my radiation treatment (5/20) and my understanding from discussions with both my surgeon & Rad onc is that the minimum time between surgery & starting radiotherapy is 6 weeks (to allow healing to be complete) and to get the expected risk reduction benefits it should be commenced within 4 months of surgery. However as Soldiercrab suggests I’m sure the helpline can give you some credible references and I would certainly hassle the radiology folks about appointment times. Be aware that after that initial consult, you will need to have a planning CT scan and then your rad onc will need some time to develop your plan, so there will be a delay between first visit and actually starting treatment. I saw the rad onc on 4/1, had planning CT on 9/1 and commenced treatment on 18/1.ViewsSign in to react to this postCommentsRe: Trying to make sense of it all.....
I too had a lumpectomy in mid Nov followed by a re-excision in early December. I too had a stage 1 grade 1/2 cancer. In both cases my post -op appointment with the surgeon to discuss results was made prior to surgery and happened 4-5 days after surgery. I met my oncologist between surgeries and had my radio oncologists appointment made prior to the second surgery for the first week of Jan. I had my planning CT scan last week and start radiotherapy tomorrow. Fingers crossed all goes to plan. I guess I am lucky that the ‘sausage machine’ of the system seemed to grind smoothly for me. I too feel slightly fraudulent, although am also swinging from the emotional highs of “leave me alone, I’m fine” to the low s off “don’t you know i have a life threatening illness?” - funny old roller coaster! Good on you for phoning and being assertive- it really shouldn’t take 4 weeks to get the results fro:surgery.ViewsSign in to react to this postComments
