Re: Blood cancer markers
Hi @ChezaH I finished treatment in September last year, I don’t remember having any tests for blood cancer markers. Did your oncologist suggest these tests and how often do you have the test. If you are concerned definitely call up the oncologist, they might be able to give you more information.18Views0likes0CommentsRe: 3 weeks post surgery - little worries
Hi @Halla I had bilateral mastectomies and a few issues relating to seroma but not the issues you have described. Can you ask for an earlier appointment with the surgeon. My surgeon was happy for me to email her any concerns and then call her to discuss ( I remember having emailed her the picture of my seroma once). I have found that often receptionists act like the gatekeepers and will not even let you talk to the doctor. You might need to insist on either seeing or speaking to the surgeon. I remember having visited the GP about my seroma and she said she couldn’t help as she had no experience in that.15Views1like0CommentsRe: CanCope - an online program to help those with Cancer, cope both emotionally and physically
Hi @arpiet I have done the program and found it very useful. I was allocated the CanCope mind. The material is very useful, the questionnaire that needs to be completed every time you do the activities is a bit tedious. I also asked for the material for the CanCope lifestyle and was told that this would be emailed to me 3 months after completion. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with cancer.23Views0likes0CommentsRe: Are you Caring for a Partner & Parents with Dementia/Alzheimers
Good news @arpie I googled and read his story as well, so inspirational. He hasn’t let anything stop him from living a full life. You are an inspiration as well, helping him and so many others on this network with your informative posts. Glad to know his chemo regimen is working. Take care and look after yourself.7Views1like0CommentsRe: 6 months Post DCIS now heart failure at 57
Hi @Louise64 Your mum was very wise to call it another speed bump. My father had a heart valve replaced at 70 and lived a very healthy life till the age of 91. His life was not affected in any way. Wishing you the best of luck and a speedy recovery.15Views4likes0CommentsRe: Mastectomy 8 days ago- seroma?
Hi @Skbr I had bilateral mastectomies and had persistent seroma for several weeks in one breast that had to be drained weekly. My surgeon asked me to call or send her photos of any issues I might have. I could also email any questions to the receptionist who would check with the surgeon and call me back. When the surgeon went on holiday she provided me with the information about another colleague who would see me if needed. Your surgeon does not seem to be empathetic, this is so stressful for you as the patient. Many doctors seem to assume we know everything. Just because they see several patients and know the issues, for us as patients this is the first and hopefully the last time we will have this procedure. I feel they should be giving us more information in writing. Can you ask to see another surgeon while your surgeon is away or see a GP as others have suggested.21Views0likes0CommentsRe: Help for bloat! 😨
Hi @Nix I have had bloating issues even prior to chemo. I used to take diluted ginger and honey. I grate some ginger, add hot water to it then strain. I would then add more water and honey to the strained mixture in order to dilute it further as ginger can be quite strong. I would then take small sips of this mixture. The oncologist suggested taking gaviscon. Hope this helps.6Views0likes0Comments
