Re: Newly Diagnosed and trying to cope
Hi Susie. Welcome to this page- you’ll get a lot of help here. you’ll be feeling so overwhelmed- try to take a few deep breaths! Everything is new and complicated and a rush- hard to take it all in. Do try to take someone with you to all your appointments, at least at this early stage. I can’t help with information about financial support, but the breast care nurses are great. Probably others will post advice in that area. The public system is very good for breast cancer treatment. I just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you. Things are difficult at present- you have every right to feel angry, sad, tired, overwhelmed! It may take time, but it will get better.5Views1like0CommentsRe: What to do to regain my strength and energy levels
I agree. I started walking to our letterbox and built up as I felt better. I’ve had a few setbacks but just start again😊 once you can walk 5km, I really suggest you try parkrun. It is a 5km run/walk on Saturday mornings. (Google it) You don’t have to be fast- walkers are welcome. Actually, if you can walk about 3km give it a go- walking with others in a friendly environment gives you a lift 🚶♀️11Views3likes0CommentsRe: hormone therapy
I’ve been on letrozole for 5 months. After about 2 I started to get painful wrists- not too bad but were beginning to give me a bit of trouble at night. I started taking tart Cherry capsules, and the painful wrists have gone. There is at least one paper showing they help in a lot of women with AI joint pain.22Views2likes0CommentsRe: DCIS and feeling down
Just wanted to say hi, hang in there, things will get better. One thing I found helped was exercise. I started walking down to the corner - 3 houses, then gradually increased the distance. It was so good to see my progress, and to get out in the open air. Walking is good for a start, then you can go on to whatever you like doing.7Views5likes0CommentsRe: Post Op at Xmas
Hi Elissa, I didn’t have your type of surgery either. Hopefully you’ll see your surgeon soon, who should be able to let you know that everything is going well. My surgery site was very bruised at first- that took several weeks to fade, and the scar itself gradually improved. As said previously, if you have any concerns contact your breast care nurse- they are wonderful! Take things easy, you are still very much recovering at present.9Views1like0CommentsRe: Balance
I’ve noticed over the past few months my balance at tai chi is off and getting worse. I started letrozole in July and hadn’t considered there might be a link. I did wonder if it might be related to having 2 general anaesthetics within a couple of months. Thanks for bringing that up- if it happens on tamoxifen it might happen on letrozole.15Views0likes0CommentsRe: DCIS treatments
So many choices to make! When I was diagnosed with IDC I had the same choice as you. I pondered (agonized?) over getting rid of everything with a mastectomy, or go with the lumpectomy and radiation, and that nagging little worry it could recur. My surgeon recommended the lumpectomy but stressed he was happy with whatever decision I made. I decided on the lumpectomy, really a personal choice that fear aside, I’d rather have what I considered the less invasive procedure. Thinking of you at this time. Whatever you decide, you’ve obviously thought it through, and it will be the best for you.23Views1like0Comments
