Re: Bone strengthening injections

Dear ladies,

I would like to hear from you your experiences and suggestions regarding Ploria injection vs Zometa for bone strengthening? My oncologist has advised me to choice myself between one of them.
As I am on Arimidex and close to get osteoporosis.
  • Hi @Glemmis, Thanks very much for sharing your information. Yes Zometa is given for many purposes. My oncologist told me that Zometa and Ploria are almost the same and they both have good effects on bone strengthening. Best of luck xx
  • Hi @Zan, I am coming up to No 5 Zometa infusion with the plan being I will have 6. I haven’t had any problems and my bone density has now stabilised after being diagnosed with osteopenia. My oncologist explained that there was some research to show Zometa may prevent bone metastasis so for me that was another reason to have it.
  • Dear Zan,
I too am concerned re my bone density.
I have had Osteopenia for many years prior to my Cancer treatments.
My Oncologist went through the side effects of some of these drugs/injections to help bone density.
I'm on Letrazole, started in Dec 2020.
I've opted to have more bone scans, and wait and see.

  • Worth checking some of the side effects and discussing what happens if you want to stop the injections (not a simple step). It can be very helpful but a full understanding of how it works is important before commencing. Best wishes.
  • @AllyJay, Great to know that you are doing well on Prolia injection! I might staring having the same injection every six months. xx
  • I started getting Prolia injections every six months since mid 2017. I had previously had three separate rib fracture in different ribs, and all three without a fall or injury. After chemo and then surgery, my bone density was checked prior to starting letrozole. I was found to have osteoporosis in some bits and borderline osteopaenia / osteoporosis in other areas, which was no surprise. My bone density has now stabilised with slight improvement, which is better than more deterioration. I've had no more fractures. I've found that I do get a migraine type headache on the second or third day after the injection, and have been told that some people do get a delayed reaction. I take a couple of paracetemol, and lie down in a darkened room for a few hours, and it passes. No other problems whatsoever.
