Black stool and vomit
Hi sorry such a disgusting topic, but a little concerning for me. I am on tamoxifen Genox20 brand, Christmas night I had a vomit (only time since) and it was black as, and my stools have been black as well ever since, even today?? I am coeliac as well so not sure what is going on !!!!! I am extremely tired and no energy.
Wondering if anybody out there has had this happen and why, not sure if its the tablets or just too much rich food for Christmas day.
Any help would be great. Cheryl

- FLCloverMemberLet’s hope all it was 🤞 @ChezaH. He said it’s ok, so that’s great. He might just wanna double check in a month

Feeling heaps better thanks, I do have lots of issues with my gut and reflux and I have specialists appointments already in place, I just thought I had to rule out the medication I am on. thanks for you advice I certainly will have it checked out. Hugs Cheryl xMorning Update for you and thank you for all your concerns.I had my gastroscopy and a biopsy has been taken and waiting for the results. After the procedure the Dr said everything looked fine and he didn't find anything of concern to him ,I had a whole heap of bloods taken so waiting for the results as well.Sorry I was rather slack, but you get to the stage of not another problem. now just have to wait for the results. Thanks again Cheryl xxDeanne said:I am on tamoxifen and have been for a number of years. I don’t think it would be causing your symptoms. I think your symptoms would be best checked out by a doctor to be on the safe side. Tiredness and lack of energy is common on tamoxifen and I think Christmas can have that effect on anybody but your other symptoms need checking. Best wishes.Morning Update for you and thank you for all your concerns.I had my gastroscopy and a biopsy has been taken and waiting for the results. After the procedure the Dr said everything looked fine and he didn't find anything of concern to him ,I had a whole heap of bloods taken so waiting for the results as well.Sorry I was rather slack, but you get to the stage of not another problem. now just have to wait for the results. Thanks again Cheryl xxPV123 said:Hi @ChezaH
I had black stools while on chemo, I spoke to the oncologist who suggested seeing a GP and getting a stool test immediately. I did the test which didn’t show anything and the black stool stopped after that. Definitely get that checked out by a GP while your oncologist is away.Morning Update for you and thank you for all your concerns.I had my gastroscopy and a biopsy has been taken and waiting for the results. After the procedure the Dr said everything looked fine and he didn't find anything of concern to him ,I had a whole heap of bloods taken so waiting for the results as well.Sorry I was rather slack, but you get to the stage of not another problem. now just have to wait for the results. Thanks again Cheryl xx - ChezaHMemberChezaH said:primek said:Black stools generally mean old blood and can have a jelly like consistency. Black vomit suggest your bleeding in your stomach or close by. It's important to have this investigated very soon. If happens again today please visit an emergency room. There are many causes of internal bleeding none which can be sorted without investigation.
A lot of red wine and spinach can give a similar look.
Tamoxifen is very unlikely to be related to any of this.
Thanks I will be having it checked out. Most practises would have someone on 'standby' as medical cases don't stop just because of Xmas/New Year ....
When are your specialist appointments? Bring them forward if you can. Ring & leave a message. They do monitor their phones even tho on holidays.
If you have a history of reflux, @ChezaH - put a brick under the two top legs of your bed. The slope is almost negligible and will not interfere with your sleep. Stomach acid CANNOT GO UPHILL. This will prevent it from 'rising in your throat' as you sleep - and may even help heal any damage from previous stomach acid/reflux. We do this on our bed as hubby had massive reflux 10 years ago (with projectile vomiting that looked like French Onion Soup .... very dark & slimey.) Are you burping? Foul smelling burps? If 'yes' - it is fermented gas from your stomach contents and it needs investigating NOW.
I would be requesting an 'uppie & a downie' asap (if you haven't had one in the last couple of years) to rule out anything sinister - and also just to have a record of it 'as it is now' for future reference.
