day 3 of radiation

Hi Jodie,

That sounds painful... but yes, it will get better soon.   It is a hard journey...  I've had my hardest day so far today but I kept telling myself that it is hard at the moment but I will get through.  I enjoy reading others stories and experiences.  It certainly helps me realise I am not alone in this...

I am now up to day 11 and have only had the nausea a few times and pain in the breast.  The nurse said that the pain is common as things start getting moved around but when I spoke with the radiation oncologist he said that what i was feeling was not from radiation...   I have come to realise that it is what it is and if I feel it then it is real.  Let me know how you get on with your breast care nurse.

Hi Kerin, I have just started radiation yesterday and have nausea and a pain in the boob too (it woke me up several times last night), exactly like you.  When I queried it, I was also told these are not really symptoms, so am not sure what is going on.  I might ring my breast care nurse tomorrow and see what they say.  I have also slept all afternoon, which I haven't done for weeks.  Lets see if we can get some answers!!!!

In My first few days of radiation, I had shooting burning pains after my zaps..My oncologist said they were nerves pains, I also had them after my surgery & they had settled down, but radiation stired them back up again...my oncologist recommend panadol every 4 hours.. I used moo goo in the beginning & then again 2 weeks after rads...I have fair skin, I burnt badly in between & I had to use other prescribed creams.. The breast care nurses really looked after me with salt baths & dressings everyday, so don't be scared to ask for help if your having a hard time with it all! That is what they are there for:) I am still using Moo Goo..skin milk udder cream & the body wash..I got it from the health food store & it cost about $12.. It took about month for my skin to settle & as goes for the nerve pain, that has got less as well.. I just have a niggle here & there ...I hope this has been helpful to you. I have just finished 30 radiation treatments, i did have some skin breakages under the breast, and I am quite fatigued. Apart from that, nothing else to report. Hope your nausea episodes subside, take care,

i think they underestimate the side effects

however i had a funny 'electric shock ' on around the 3rd day but it didnt happen again

i would over do self care during radiation and i had two weeks off work later on which was useful in all sorts of ways

general nurses attached to radiation unit were useful to talk through or address any concerns; tiredness does come and then goes quickly if youhave a break or weekend..and i did get red and skin breakages but healing was quick and painless too in my case...

maybe experiment if better to have treatment in am or pm
