Visits to the Specialists

Just back from my Onc appointment today (6-8 weeks after starting AIs) - I will be seeing her again in 2 months, as I've had a change of medication!   Sadly, my GP is moving to Melbourne - I will miss her dearly   :(

@arpie My GP is the exception. I believe she genuinely cares.

Yep, @kmakm  ... my rad Onc, Onc and GP are all very caring and observant.  My surgeon was lovely too ... maybe not as observant!

@arpie You must have great docs if they're checking in on your mental health. I don't think mine (and I really like my BS) give my emotional state much thought at all.

Yep - every 3 months with one or the other (onc, rad onc & surgeon) during the first year or two ... yearly mammograms & ultrasounds as well (unless like me, you get a scare - I've just had one at  6 months ..... and get the results tomorrow ...)

My girlfriend has her MG & US every 6 months anyway & is currently having further tests with enlarged nodes & stuff :(   

I think they like to check your 'mental state' as well ..... make you feel 'looked after'?

Good news on the clear scans @Stork.  

I have seen surgeon every 3 months for 18 months, Oncology every 3 months for the first 12 months.  Next onc appointment is 6 months and radiation oncology 6 months.  Sometimes it just depends how you are going with things as to how often they want to see you I guess.

Same here Stork. I see my breast surgeon and oncologist alternating every three months, so twice a year for each. That will drop down to once a year for each after a year or two I believe. My breast surgeon says he will discharge me as a patient after ten years.

That may change if my hormones try to get me ovulating again. I'm being monitored with a blood test every three months. If they do, it's Zolodex for me.

@Stork - I have just finished all my treatment and my oncologist wants me to either see her or my surgeon every 3 months at this stage so they don't double up so I will be the same as you.  It will drop down as the years of hopefully no more cancer continue.
