State of the Nation - Question Parking
Thank you all for your ongoing responses to questions I have already posed - it is never to late to continue adding to your experiences.
Now I am keen to hear about parking. When you were going through treatment did you have to pay for your parking? Did you receive discounts, did you receive free parking vouchers.
I have a feeling this may be a hot topic - so look forward to our discussions

- MiraMemberI had to pay for parking for everything except radiation, they had free parking in special spots in the carpark across the road. I qualify for community transport now (2 years later) and for $15 each way I get picked up at home and dropped at the transit centre of the hospital, then picked up again from the transit centre when I am done and dropped home. So I don't need parking anymore :)
- ChorsellMemberFor the majority of my parking for appointments I was able to fit within the 2 hour free limit at public hospitals... however there were days where I had multiple appointments that this was not the case.
parking was very much an issue for my husband when visiting everyday after surgeries, as I had 10 this became quite costly... as we live an hour away from the hospital he tended to stay all day as it was such a distance to travel. - We paid for parking to see my chemotherapy oncologist and most medical tests and surgery. There was free parking at the hospital for radiation but a bit of a long walk when you are tired from treatment. Parking was hard to find for my chemotherapy at a private hospital but I think it was free. Parking to see surgeon also free.
- Michelle_RMemberHi Kirsten,
The Premion Centre on the Gold Coast at Southport has Oncology and chemo, breastcare and surgery, radiography and radiation treatment centre, pathology and xray - all in the one building. There are also several floors of free undercover parking. I was so lucky to have such a wonderful team and no parking worries whatsoever. It should be the last expense patients have to be worried about. - SoldierCrabMemberI realised I should of added that I changed from Nepean for Chemo to Bathurst where there is no parking costs. Radiation was in Orange Base Hospital and we have Community Bus - trip at $5 per return trip each day x 6 weeks but it meant I didnt have to drive 55mins each way myself on icy roads in winter.
- SusieQ2MemberThe chemo unit gave discounted parking tickets of $10 but I opted to park in nearby streets and walk. Although not very well throughout chemo treatment, it was an enforced walk and all the exercise I managed. I try and park offsite for all appointments now to get in a little incidental exercise. Parking everyday for radiation treatment would have cost a packet! I was lucky enough to be able to walk to my car.
- Jane221MemberNo parking fees for chemo / Herceptin (Gosford Private), but believe they now have paid parking. No parking fees for radiation treatment as there is a free car park nearby but steep fees at Prince of Wales hospital (Randwick, Sydney) where I had my surgeries e.g 2hrs: $18.40 and all day: $28.

For all of my initial specialist visits and tests we have had to pay for parking. The Epworth Richmond provide free parking vouchers while having Chemotherapy treatment at their day unit which is great
- Michelle_WMemberI have have been lucky enough to have my Surgeon, Medical Oncologist and Radiation Oncologist and all my surgery, chemo and radium and Gyno surgery at St Andrews Private Hospital in Toowoomba.
The parking is free and they also have a little shuttle buggy that takes you from anywhere in the car park to where ever you need to go around the hospital. Fantastic hospital. - iserbrownMemberPrivate parking companies running hospital carparks make it difficult. We found that Maccas across the road from the hospital is free for the first hour so dependent on what type of appointment we sometimes took advantage of that and bought a coffee at Maccas to satisfy the requirement of being a Maccas customer.
