Sore toenails

Hi everyone

Newbie here. Toenails are really sore tonight. Just wondering ehat everyones thoughts or experiences are with bed cradles or what to use to take the weight of the blankets off my feet please?

Thank you so very much for your time and help💕🌷💕

  • I'm new to here too. My toenails have been hurting A LOT throughout my treatment. Things that work for me (eases the pain) are clipping them short (after a soak in the bath) and gentle massage. Didn't think of a bed cradle... might try that too. With your port, the only way I can lie on my side is to hug a pillow into my chest to kind of keep it in place. Hope you find something that works for you x

      Hi there

      Thank you for replying 😇

I have propped a little pillow at the end of the bed and that seems to be helping.

Just sleeping on my back as I can't get comfortable any other way with the port.

Thanks for sharing, greatly appreciated 💖🌹💖🥰

  • I had a bed cradle but didn't like it. My feet got cold as the blanket kept lifting. I tried a separate blanket but my feet still got cold. I now sleep with my feet on their side so there is no weight on them. At one stage I put thick socks and crocs on. Protected my toes but very odd to sleep.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. I used a long lounge cushion and it seems to have helped. May try a bigger pillow. My feet are getting sore on their side. I have a portacath and am finding sleep quite uncomfortable at the moment. 😇

  • HiSubie01 so sorry to hear about your toes - that’s not a fun thing to experience when you’re trying to sleep. Great question!

I elevated my feet by propping them on a pillow but poked them out from under the end of the doona to stop the pressure on them but the “bridge” idea is a good one! In addition to the toenail “bruising” and ultimate toe nail loss, my feet felt very hot all during chemo which was another reason to stick them out from under the covers.

Open toed soft fluffy slippers were a good alternative to my usual slippers and I discovered Birkenstock makes a covered shoe (lace up) in suede with a high toe box that enabled me to wear something other than a pair of soft fabric runners when I was out and about.

  • Sorry to hear they are so sore. Walk around your house and look for things to make a fort  on the edge and middle of the bed with plenty of space between for your feet and turning , pillows, cushions, rolled up blankets , clean small plastic rubbish bin/bucket ( but that might slip, something with a bit of grip probably best ) , step stool,  stuff a shopping bag with towels for weight and bulk.....   loose socks, tea tree oil is good to avoid toe nail infections , painkillers, meditation .... good luck . rest is important, especially  if your in chemo
