- AfraserMemberI didn't know my next door neighbour had had bc until I told her I had! She's 10 years ahead of me, so 15 years clear, doing fine and an act to follow!
- HarleeMemberMy aunt originally had breast cancer about 20 years ago. She had a recurrence at the 15 year mark which was the year before my diagnosis. She has just turned 80 and has had her second 5 year all clear.
- SoldierCrabMemberI have 5 ladies in our local support group who are ranging from 15 to 35 years since diagnosis.... I am a mere 5 yrs they merrily call me the newbie .... we have had quite a few new ladies since we began, but those that are more than 10 years out call us all the newbies ... they are a wonderful source of inspiration and share their stories of resolving life after a diagnosis. I shared about my Vaginal Atrophy and three of them were in tears no one had ever explained there were things like lubes and moisturizers to help etc....
- primekMemberMy sisters mother in law is a 28 year survivor. She is now 91.
My niece is a 15 year survivor.
I'm a 2 year survivor. - SisterMember@Milly21 What a nice idea to have asked. I'm currently in hospital and have only just started with this so lots of time to think. I know none of us can be certain, but it's so good to be hearing times like 20 years rather than the 5 year landmark.
- Brenda5MemberMy sister-in-law is an 18yr survivor after a single mastectomy no reconstruction, no chemo just radiation. I never asked if she had Tamoxifen. She is about 10 years older than me. I am 55. She is still working but thinking of retiring.
- RomlaMemberJust thought I’d share this one. Met a lady in her 70s at a local bc support group. 20 years ago on a van trip around Australia she discovered a lump in her breastin Mackay. Her husband and daughter shared the same birthday and the daughter’s was her 21st.Mum and Dad had promised to return for 21st wherever they were so this lady packed her husband back to Adelaide on a plane and then checked herself into hospital for a mastectomy. At the time the hospital shut at weekends so after a few days she had to return to the caravan park - alone but with helpful caravanners who organised basic foodstuffs for her to await her husband’s return. She’s only a tiny little lady and still fit as a fiddle. She is the reason I started walking as every day rain/shine she gets up at 6am for a one hour walk - it’s hilly too. Yvonne is one of the remarkable people I have met since my bc diagnoses although she doesn’t see herself as such.
- Jen79xMemberMy nan was diagnosed at 40 and was told she had a aggressive cancer, likely months to live. She lived cancer free until about 70 before passing of old age ❤️
