Dressing change post mastectomy

Hi everyone, just wondering when you had your wound dressing change after your mastectomy? My understanding is it should be 1-2 weeks post surgery, but I still don’t have an appointment for it despite contacting BC nurse & surgical team today. I was told they’re going to follow it up, which hopefully won’t be too far away as I’m finding the dressing uncomfortable especially in the evenings

  • @khill72 As @Spursy says, tell them you need it changed. You should not have to be uncomfortable. I think mine was only on for a week as I developed a reaction to it. My drain site had bandages over bandages over bandages. I think I moved around too much and the tube kept pulling the thing off. It was changed three days after it was initially put on and then again a week later. Once the tube was out they put a tiny one on which fell off in the shower (it may have had some help 😝)
  • I went everyday to silver chain nurse for 10 days because they check the fluid levels draining out. The dressing was changed once after 5 or 6 days. Just ask for it to be changed as it's hurting.
