I have just been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma with a grade 2 tumor. Doctor said that it's very early stages as it is very tiny, cannot be felt and need to have a wire inserted into the area to remove the tumor. Seeing the specialist tomorrow to organise surgery. Have had a horrible 2 weeks of tests, biospy and waiting for results. Specialist said I didn't need a masectomy as it's small and lumpectomy with radiation will be successful. SO worried that I may need chemo depending on the results of the surgery as he has to check if it's in the lymph nodes. So confused and scared.

So sorry to hear your news. The thing is to take one day at a time. Try not to think too far ahead and concentrate on getting each step done. Waiting as everyone here will tell you is the worst. Waiting for results, appointments, treatment but just try to take one day at a time. It is a scary time but come back here for support or questions. I find the ladies here very helpful and have lots of advice. Ps: I am currently done 4 of 6 sessions of chemo. I had bilateral masectomy.

Thank you for your responseC.Yeo. Was yours early breast cancer? I have full faith that I will conquer this and trying very hard to take it a day at a time. The decision making and worrying is the worst. I am indecisive whether to have a masectomy and not worry about it again or just have the tumor removed with radiation and see how it all goes. It's really driving me crazy.

I have stage 3 with 11 out of 14 nodes involved. Even though it is only on the left, I chose to have both remove for my own reasons. Be guided by your drs and ur inner self. It is not an easy decision to make. Did your surgeon run through options for you? As for me, there was not much choice as it was a quite large 70 mm and 15mm. There will probably be others here who will come on to talk about their experience. Take one step at a time. One thing I did was start doing some walking almost immediately after diagnosis which I believe help me through treatment process so far. Xxxxx

Mine was exactly like yours.Invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2.Just remember though,that even though the type is the same,they are all different depending on what they find in the pathology report.I chose a mastectomy,and I also had chemo because my oncologist recommended it after seeing my pathology results.(which you get after surgery).Even if you do need chemo,don't worry,because these days it is not the horror trip that you heard of years ago.These days there are medications for just about every side effect known.What I would say at the moment though,is don't get too far ahead of yourself.Try to take things one day at a time,and focus on what YOU KNOW,not what you fear.Stay on here,because it is the BEST place for support and advice.Cheers xoxRobyn

Hi Hazel, Thank you for your Message, really appreciate it. Surgery is booked for 2/5. The surgeon said the tumor is tiny so very hard to predict what treatment may be required until after surgery. Hopefully lymph nodes will come back negative. Just have to wait and see I guess. So scared and worried but not much can be done except to carry on normal as much as possible. Regards xx

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, I had 2 tumours, one 15mm, one 8mm, Grade 2. I thought I would need a mastectomy but they were both in the same quadrant of one breast. The surgeon said he would treat them as one as they were so close together and as I am large breasted he believed he could perform a lumpectomy without too much trouble. Surgery went well and I can hardly notice where he operated. I also had the wires inserted and had only one lymph node removed which was negative.I assumed I would just have the 6 weeks radiation and be on my way. However, my family history is quite tragic so they recommended chemo. My advice would be to listen to your medical team, weigh up the facts and then make your decision. I was told to make the decision that would leave me the least regrets down the track. I have had the chemo, not a pleasant trip but doable. I am currently through 14/30 radiation treatements. I now know that if something happens in the future, I did everything possible to prevent that. I'm happy with my decision to have a lumpectomy. Everybody is so different, every cancer is so different, try to take it one day at a time, I wish you well with whatever you decide, take care, Hazel xx

I am sure I will - and I feel I am in very good hands. but of course it would be unnatural not to be nervous. WE are lucky things have improved from years ago. Will let you know how I go tomorrow later. thanks for your support Robyn.
