Mu mum was also big breasted and 20 years ago all was very different. the poor soul wanted both breasts removed but they insisted on just the one. sadly , her good breast in time became double the size and it was such an inconvenience and horror, but the doctors still did not want to remove it. Poor darling, today she is in a nursing home and 86 and still with the one sagging useless breast and it breaks my heart. I was diagnosed last year and i aksed the surgeon about the mastectomy, but he told me ( I am small breasted) that a lumpectomy will suffice and the 3 nodes removed plus 30 sessions of radiation therapy. I recently had another core biopsy, and gladly it was good , so I was able to breathe again. In the future should my cancer come back, i will insist on having a double mastectomy as I value and love my life.
