Hi everyone, I’m 6 days post mastectomy and I’m wondering how soon after surgery is it ok to use deodorant on the operated side?

    Hi @khill72
I'm not sure there is an official rule. I think I waited probably a week or so after surgery and was just careful not putting it too close to surgical areas. Hopefully your recovery is coming along nicely

I can't remember exactly how long i Waited but it was a little while.  I only did one armpit with deodorant as I didn't want any infection on my surgery side.

Once the sites have healed up just use a natural deodorant. I don’t know if the nurse actually told me anything in regards to this but if you are unsure, maybe just use some sanitising wipes for awhile.

I do remember the nurses saying to avoid aluminium in deodorant and try natural ones where possible.

Recommended at the time - aluminium free!

I use Dove 0%, I've tried the more natural ones and they all give me a rash 🤷‍♀️

I second the MooGoo deodorant! I just put it on avoiding any surgical wounds & it did the job. I avoided my old sprays for quite a while, have only gone back to them occasionally if I know I’ll get a sweat up. The Moo Goo does seem pretty good though, just feel a bit yuck using roll on on a hot, sticky day - personal preference.
