Can one demand a reconstruction, even if surgeon does not recommend it? Should I get a 2nd opinion or see a plastic surgeon? My time to Decide is running out.

A lot of questions there! Why does your surgeon not recommend reconstruction? Ever or not right now? What kind of reconstruction? Are you likely to have radiation which might suggest you wait and have reconstruction after radiation is finished? Demand is rarely a good foot to start on. Understanding why your surgeon is not recommending reconstruction right now is key to any other action.

You definitely have the right to a second opinion and to ask about reconstruction options. I agree regarding being careful about using the terming of ‘demand’, but as to requesting it and getting a second opinion there’s no harm in that. My mum asked for second opinion before agreeing to chemo, and my friend asked for second opinion before spinal procedure. Hth
