Thyroid link?

Hi ladies, Apologies I don't get on here much but I hope everyone is well.

I am currently unwell with a virus and have a feeling of something stuck in my throat. They said it was just due to my inflamed esophagus with the coughing etc but I maintained that it feels different to that and that something is stuck. They finally caved and sent me for CT scan (to shut me up) and that came back with no foreign body BUT incidental finding of an enlarged thyroid.
So yesterday I had thyroid bloods and an ultrasound and the sonographer was very much like "when are you seeing your Dr? This report will be ready first thing in the morning, have they done bloods? Be sure to make an appointment as soon as both results are ready" so of course that got me a bit worried. Phoned my Drs office to ask when bloods would be back, the receptionist dismissed me saying our process is to text you if you need to come in. When I said about them needing both report and bloods she just said "our process is different" and hung up!
I told my husband all this and he said "Not to be pessimistic but is there a link between breast and thyroid cancer?" Which of course there is slight evidence for.

This virus is 1 hell of a nasty 1, only time i remember being this unwell is after the neulasta injections with chemo, my whole body hurts! Doesn't help that my 4 year old is also unwell and hubby is trying to look after us both, run us to Drs, cook and keep up his own work (his boss doesn't seem to understand family prioroty).

Sorry for my whinge, Here's hoping the enlarged thyroid is just from the virus xxx

I’m slightly off doctors’ receptionists this week! It’s probably all fine but receptionists don’t actually have a licence to create anxiety. Can you ask for the doctor to call you back? Best wishes, hope you feel much better soon.

If your health really starts to deteriorate and you cannot get a Dr appointment, go to the ER. The thyroid could be holding infection and you need antibiotics.

OMG what a useless Dr's receptionist ...  she shouldn't be in that job.

I am SO sorry to hear of this development @JoeyLiz - specially that the sonographer was giving you a hint that you need to get this followed up on ....  Also Very interesting that you mentioned Thyroid in the same sentence with Breast Cancer - my surgeon in Sydney is a specialist in both - and they are the only bits he 'does'.

I hope you get your bloods results asap & can see a thyroid specialist soon as as well.  As @Brenda5 says - if you are really concerned & can't see your GP - go to ER - they should be able to access all your info online.

All the best, thinking of you xxx

    Thanks ladies.

Drs nurse just rang and she wants to discuss the ultrasound result. They don't have blood result yet but will by my appointment tomorrow morning.

    Now I'm really anxious 😥

Hopefully the bloods will be ready by then too - and it only shows as an infection.  Better to get it thoroughly checked out now, before everyone disappears on 3 weeks holidays!!

All the best for tomorrow.  Big hugs xxx

Hi JoeyLiz...I had a right breast mastectomy 3 weeks ago, on Dec 20. I had bone and CT scan, and the CT scan showed am anormaly on my thyroid. I did an ulrasound to the neck and the results revealed that I have a growth on my thyroid.
I am now being referred to the thyroid clinic for biopsy and further investigations.
I have also done blood tests for thyroid function and results for these were normal.
Not sure if there is a correlation between the growth in my thyroid and breast cancer but hoping not.
    Good luck with everything.

@Blessed72 oh you poor thing having to deal with all that! I hope all goes well. Xx

My breast diagnosis was sep 2017 with all treatment finished Dec 2018. We were just given the all clear to try for baby no.2 so I'm hoping this doesn't spoil that!

    Best wishes @JoeyLiz
Since BC diagnosis thyroid became an issue for me. Extremely dry skin and occasional trouble with swallowing.
Took over 3 years to get my thyroid levels in the black.

    Hi @JoeyLiz
Have you had your appointment to get to the bottom of it all?

    Hi @iserbrown thanks for asking.
The Dr said ultrasound showed diffuse thyroiditis (No nodules thank goodness) but wasn't sure if it was infective thyroiditis and as I was still so unwell with this virus sent me to emergency. They did x-ray to rule out pneumonia. They are unsure what to do with thyroid so lots of follow up bloods to keep an eye on levels. Just hoping I feel better soon

This virus sure has knocked you about!
Hopefully as it clears your levels will be in the normal range.

Hoping you feel better soon @JoeyLiz - and that they can sort some treatment as well - or even find out why it happened to you in the first place?  I didn't know there 'was' an infective thyroiditis!

    take care xxx
