When you're living with breast cancer, or are post-treatment, there can be days when finding the right words feels difficult. Sometimes, emotions sit quietly beneath the surface, and sometimes the mind just needs a gentle break from appointments, scans, treatments, recovery, or the everyday challenges that come with navigating cancer.
This week, let's explore the healing power of creativity.
Creativity isn't about being an artist or creating something "perfect." It's about giving yourself permission to play, express, explore, and simply be present in the moment. Whether it's painting, colouring, knitting, gardening, photography, journaling, pottery, crafting, or even rearranging flowers in a vase, creative activities can help us slow down and reconnect with ourselves.
Many people find that creative pursuits offer:
🌿 A sense of calm and mindfulness
🌿 A healthy outlet for emotions
🌿 A break from worry and overthinking
🌿 A boost in confidence and self-expression
🌿 Moments of joy, accomplishment, and connection
Spring is also a wonderful reminder that growth can happen in unexpected ways. Just as new buds appear after winter, creativity can help us discover new strengths, perspectives, and possibilities within ourselves. You don't need special skills or fancy supplies. Sometimes the simple act of putting colour on paper, taking a photo of a beautiful flower, or writing down a few thoughts can be enough.
This week, why not set aside a little time to try something creative? Start small, be kind to yourself, and focus on the enjoyment rather than the outcome.
🎨 If you'd like to explore watercolour painting in a supportive environment, Counterpart is hosting a Water Colour Workshop in Melbourne on October 13th. You can find out more here:👉 https://counterpart.org.au/events/water-colour/
