Hi Marg I had radiotherapy & lumpectomy first time round, 10 years later had bilateral mastectomy, pacltaxel & herceptin. I had time off first time round as had to go to Sydney for treatment; this time round I was able to have chemo in our local hospital, lucky enough to go to treatment then onto work afterwards. The exhaustion is was gets me now, always tired and can’t get enough sleep! I believe it’s the rotten tablets Femara that are causing it and causing the pain in my ligaments in my fingers and toes. You are right each person is different and will react differently. I do think a positive attitude helps a lot too. I have moments even now where I feel overwhelmed at times and think to myself did this really happen. I try and take one step at a time and live in the moment, deal with each thing one at a time to avoid overwhelming myself even further... Most of all I enjoy being alive and enjoy each little moment of my day. Everyone has to find their happy place during their cancer journey, what makes them comfortable and help them to relax - reading, gardening, socialising, tv, sleeping whatever it is do it when you need to; make yourself the number one no matter what anyone says; it helps you to get through it. take care all xxx Sheran15Views2likes0CommentsRe: Chickchat fortnightly coffee morning
Morning everyone our group is growing in number and we are now able to make contact with newly diagnosed ladies; the most fearful time for anyone; the in-between time; which is after diagnosis and before treatment /surgery. The scary time when you are not sure what is going to happen and there isn't anyone to have visual contact with. The cancer council is great but run by volunteers and are only available during office hours...unfortunately our fears are not always good time keepers! We still meet every second Saturday in a local coffee shop for a get together and a laugh. Please give us a call or join in whenever you can. Hello Brenda I find that meds like Arimidex and Femara also add to the problem of chemo brain and exhaustion. I work for a government department as a telephonist, I wear a headset, I found what I was hearing from the caller in the headset was not coming out in my typing! to such an extent I thought my cancer had spread to my brain so my GP sent me for a brain scan. Only then did my oncologist agree to change the Arimidex to Femara. I am still so tired on the Femara I have to force myself to get up and do anything; but at least my memory isn't as bad as it was... also excercising is great for lymphodema, stretching and walking especially - that is something else you have to force yourself to do!
