Re: Newly diagnosed
Well this week has been a difficult one. After my surgery going well, the surgeon said he didn't expect me to need any further treatment. However, my pathology report said otherwise. We got the top line info and the affected area was double the size initially calculated and it appears to be more aggressive than first thought. Therefore, there is the likelihood it is in my bloodstream. I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach again. I'm getting my head around it and meet with my surgeon on Thursday to talk the report in more detail and talk further treatment. Again, I'm trying to be positive and my husband, children, loved ones and discussions like these, keep my spirits up. And my son asks me every day when he gets in from pre-school if I have my new boob yet (keeps me smiling). Think he might be a boob man when he's older :smile:10Views0likes0CommentsRe: Newly diagnosed
Hi eveyone, thank you for your thoughts and sharing your stories with me. You are all amazing women. Had my op yesterday and all went well. Surgeon was really happy with how things went. Was cheered up by seeing my hubby and children after the surgery. My 3 year old son said "mommy can I see your boob they took away" bless him, it was so cute the way he asked it made my chuckle. Just pleased they are asking questions when they are ready. Laughter really is the best medicine (and the strong drugs of course). Once I started talking to my children about what was happening, I found it really easy, as we have a really good relationship and they know I'm always honest with them. I've kept my humour in all this and I know some people may think it insensitive, but that's what gets me through it and that's all that matters. Woke up positive this morning. That step is done. Each day as it comes. x18Views0likes0CommentsRe: Newly diagnosed
Hi Pam, yes it is early bc but I have two small lumps and have quite a few DCIS'. They would be looking to remove 9cm but there is no guarantee they would get them all. Having the mastectomy would put my mind at ease rather than worrying some had been missed.23Views0likes0CommentsRe: Newly diagnosed
Soldier Crab - we have one in pre-school (4 next month) and one at school (9 this Sunday). My husband and I are going to speak to them but trying to decide if we tell them this evening and then the birthday celebrations will take our minds off it or wait until her birthday is over and talk early next week. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have anyone to come and help. My family are back in the UK and my husbands family in WA. Aine - my decision over the weekend is if I have a double mastectomy or not. Your input and experience would be valuable. Thank you ladies7Views0likes0CommentsRe: Newly diagnosed
Thank you all for you comments. Saw the surgeon this morning. Unfortunately in typical 'ME' style, my case is "complicated" so it looks like a mastectomy for me this Wednesday. It's surprising me that I'm feeling very calm and controlled in my emotions. I know that may not always be the case. My husband has ordered 'My Jouney Kit' and I'm waiting to hear from the bfeast care nurse. Thank you again for taking the time to comment, it helps.6Views0likes0CommentsNewly diagnosed
I've retyped this post so many times I wasn't sure what to say. I got my results today and I feel numb. I've been quite calm, not many tears, but I know it hasn't hit me yet. At this stage, it's early breast cancer but I meet with the surgeon tomorrow. We are new to where we live and apart from my husband and two young children, we have no family support nearby and haven't made many friends yet so feeling a little isolated, so I need to take advantage of any support I can get. Thank you.1KViews0likes34Comments
