Re: What NOT to say to people affected with breast cancer
When my neighbour heard I had BC he said "a relative of ours had bc and died" gee thanks for telling me, like I really wanted to hear that. I understand that people like to help too, but recommending certain foods does my head in7Views

Re: Finished treatment and scared
Hi I am also a TNBC, had a 3.5 cm tumour, had a lumpectomy, followed by chem, taxol & radiation which I finished in December. The worse part is I now have tinnitus, there are times when it's pretty bad and I feel like I'm going crazy, I find if I am kept pretty busy I don't notice the ringing in my ears. The chemo has thrown me into menopause, so getting hot flushes and aches and pains in my legs, so glad the weather has gotten cooler. Whilst I am grateful to be alive it's now trying to live with these side affects and my mental state has suffered, getting motivated is becoming an effort, it's a hard slog. My hair has grown back and I don't look sickly but for a long time there I hated my eyes and what chemo does to you. Yes it's hard to move on from our diagnosis & treatment, I tend to listen to music (to distract the ringing in my ears), I can't concentrate for long periods in reading books though. None of us wanted this awful disease but we keep putting one foot forward and keep moving - somehow.8Views

Re: Newbie
Hi Submarine welcome to the website, I know you must be feeling overwhelmed by everything, I like you was diagnosed in April this year stage 2 grade 3 triple negative, it has been a roller coaster ride to say the least, I had a lumpectomy and 4 rounds of AC chemo followed by 12 treatments of taxol (I only completed 9 due to side effects), and I am about to start radiation. I was floored by the chemo, I was doing chemo every 3 weeks, the metallic taste was constant, the tiredness was ever present, and of course the nausea, I was sleep deprived as well at the beginning. Mentally I was spent, especially when I was left on my own, hubby & sons would go off to work and I would spiral into depression, I found I had too much time on my hands to think. I'd found pottering around in the garden or watching my favourite movies helped me. I have also joined the YMCA Encore program and this has been a welcome relief for me, the program goes for 8 week and its for breast cancer patients, I recommend it. I was ok about loosing my hair, eyelashes & brows I knew they were going, but now just want to get back to some normality. Make sure you ask for support whether it is family or friends, having such a young family will be exhausting at the moment for you, and let your oncology team know your side effects, but mostly open up and talk as much as you want to any of us here, everyone's journey is different but we are all in this together, take care and sending you hugs, Sophie3Views

Re: Triple Negative Breast Cancer support and advice
Hi Can-bra I was diagnosed with TNBC in April 2016 and currently doing taxol treatment, my AC treatment was every 3 weeks, originally was suppose to be every 2 weeks this was due to my recovery being so slow. I found the AC very hard and there was no way I could of worked that period, the fatigue was the hardest part for me to over come. The taxol treatment is a lot milder and I have found I have more energy and stamina, it all depends on how your body responds to treatment, you might be able to work, its not going to be easy but not out of the question just go easy on yourself and listen to your body. I hope you have someone who will be a good support for you as you will need it. It's a long journey, you will have good days and bad days but we are strong women, we keep our chin up and we keep going, take care Sophie9Views

Re: a Newbie needing reassurance
Hi Kath, I was also diagnosed as triple negative in April 2016 initially told tumour was1.5cm surgery revealed it was 3.5cm but not in lymph nodes. It's a roller coaster ride for sure but you ride it, you will have good days and there is those off days but you soldier on relentlessly. Please don't go to Dr Google it just doesn't help, instead it's one day at a time, I don't plan too far ahead apart from appointments, my mother is also a triple negative breast cancer survivor 6 years on now and she is doing well, we have come a long way in treatments, take care Sophie25Views
