Re: Anxiety, depression
I did this too. I just felt like I wanted to throw up, run away, scream my head of and crawl into a ball and cry all at the same time. I don't know what to say because I know nothing takes it away. It's just one foot in front of the other till you get to the next point. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. What kind of surgery will you get?49Views0likes0CommentsSo not what I wanted to hear
I went and got my results from surgery today. I've had chemo and then a mastectomy and full clearance. Tests came back showing cancer still in the nodes. On the positive they did have to do a special test to see them as they were 'sparse' but still I'm gutted. I have been keeping so positive. When I was going through chemo I felt like I Was moving to a goal of getting rid of the cancer and now I'm there and so is it. Radiation is next and then hormone treatment. When I asked how do we know radiation worked? She said we just have to monitor for symptoms :( Now the wait for appointment with onc and radiologist. I feel like I did when I first heard the words 'you have cancer'. I don't want to die. I don't want this to be my life. I don't want to live with this constant fear. Sorry just having a, this all sucks, moment.305Views0likes15CommentsBra after mastectomy
so I had my mastectomy last Thursday and I'm now home. All is going well except I have some tingling in my arm. I have one D cup boob left and feeling very unsupported. What bra do I wear, when can I start wearing a bra, where do I get one? Bit unprepared :(1.3KViews0likes10CommentsRe: Having one of those days or 2.........
@MelissaD an Exercise Physiologist is a university trained specialist in exercise and illness. I found mine via my breast care nurse but there is also this link you can find one I n your area https://www.essa.org.au/ I had a referral from my GP so got first 5 sessions free then Tayla (the exercise physiologist) it me on a program for $120 for 8 weeks. I go 3 times a week for 40 min sessions. I started cycle 2 of chemo and would actually go to a session at 9 and then into chemo at 11. It was great. Tayla always worked with me and how I was feeling. Mostly we did a lot of strength building. Physically it made me feel stronger and mentally it helped me feel like I had some control. I have never been one to exercise and only started this when I started chemo. My BC nurse put me into the Catalyst episode about cancer and exercise. http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4459555.htm Tayla now sees quite a few cancer patients currently going through treatment. I really do credit her for getting me through chemo so well. I was on TAC for 6 cycles. A fairly aggressive treatment but all in all I got through it well. highly recommend it :)1View0likes0CommentsRe: Having one of those days or 2.........
@MelissaD I hear you. I had such plans for 2017 and they all just got pushed to the side and taken over by cancer. I'm someone who is always doing something and never enough time to do it in so it was a big adjustment to rest and let others take care of me. For me, I took up exercise with an Exercise Physiologist, and it kept me going. On the days I didn't want to get out of bed, I got up and went to my session and always felt better, even if it just made me so tired I slept the rest of the day, it was a good sleep. I also signed up for some monthly challenges I found online, one was Mindful May and the other was about minimalising your house. These gave me little mini goals that were achievable so I didn't feel completely useless. Chemo really takes it out of you and emotionally just drains you. I have found now I have finished chemo I feel much better mentally. The 'Chemo Fog' is not fun, but you will get through it :)17Views0likes0CommentsRe: Bone pain
I was on TAC. Round 2 I experienced bone pain. The onc nurse gave me this advice for round 3. Take nestuala out of fridge. Take panadol. Wait 30 mins for nest to come to room temp and panadol to take effect. Give injection. I would then have a warm bath, take an endo and go to bed. I then took panadol regularly for first couple of days and I was good. The most important thing is to talk to your onc, they will know how to help you best :)9Views1like0CommentsRe: Drain site pain after mastectomy
I was going to go home today but decided to stay. I have a 2 & 4 year old at home. As much as I miss them I really need the space and someone taking care of me for now. Poor hubby is struggling dealing with them on his own but I know I would be absolutely no helpful and would only add to his load at home. Its 1.30am, waiting on my next endo so I can grab a few more hours sleep. So tired but if I lay down it just starts hurting too much. Mit is nice and quiet on the ward tonight :smile:15Views0likes0CommentsRe: Drain site pain after mastectomy
I don't think she did leave instructions. If it's not in the chart the nurses don't do it and I can't see it in there. I'll check tomorrow when I ask about leaving on Monday. i got about 2 hours sleep when the endo kicked in but had to sit up again as I felt the pinch coming on. I keep chanting in my head 'this sucks but it's better than cancer'12Views0likes0CommentsRe: Drain site pain after mastectomy
That's exactly it @Melsie97 I can be perfectly fine and comfortable and then BAM the pain is excruciating. The pain meds dull it but I'm so scared of them wearing off. It will be day 3 tomorrow so let's hope the drain comes out. Does the doc need to approve the drain out? My doc isn't back till Monday. She said I could go home But I do t want to go home like this,22Views0likes0Comments
