Re: No support from my son/single Mum
Hi Ninja, My 33 yr old son is very supportive, but then he has his own serious health issues so he gets it. I suppose what I am trying to say is that maybe be thankful that he is still able to get out and live his life free of the weight that sits on our shoulders. From reading everyone's posts and from experience it doesn't seem to be age as much as life experiences that make them like they are. Until someone goes through a major health crisis, they don't get it. Hope your treatment goes well. Pam6Views1like0CommentsRe: Yearly check up
Hi Jan, scanxiety is so real. Any tests make me very nervous now. My last mammogram/ultrasound something similar happened. The girl spent A LOT of time measuring and going over some spots a few times - I am just about wetting myself. I asked her and she said she's not allowed to say anything. Luckily my docs surgery rang that afternoon to confirm my apt and I told her about it. The results were already there and she told me all was well. So number 1 couldn't they at least say "you will get a call within so many hours if there is a problem" or something similar. And why do docs ring you and say come down to surgery straight away - but won't tell you on phone what is wrong? To me I think I would rather know the bad news straight away - then arrange the docs apt - maybe with partner or friend in tow. They say they need to be with you when they impart the news - I say I'd rather be at home and have the opportunity to take it in and get a friend / partner if I need them. One of the above times just after treatment finished, the GP got her receptionist to ring me to come down straight away - I totally panicked and off I went - and had a (luckily minor) car accident - to the news that I had a thyroid problem???37Views1like0CommentsRe: HIT - the wall
Thanks Zoffiel, it is all very frustrating. This pushing past it was my GP's idea. ( I am sure they think its in my head!! ) So I can report that I think I would become physically ill if I kept trying to push past it. I don't get it every day at least now but once or twice a week, at the moment. Other days I'm not exactly full of energy, but I don't need an avo sleep!! ie sometimes its not a brick wall but a spider web that just slows me down. I too have tried various supplements as well, and the green smoothies and vege juices. I feel fat and lazy, my fitness levels are probably sunk, which is probably not helping, according to my fit bit thingy most days I do 9000 - 10000 steps, but surprise, surprise on my bad days its more like 3000 - 4000. I am not on ant drugs currently (accept thyroid one that was not caused by chemo HA) had 4 AC 4 Docs & hercepton, (Still reckon that my thyroid got dangerously low on chemo and all the "roundup" as one Margie aptly said stayed on my system too long, docs love that explanation). If its only a year for you it could well be not permanent - I have improved a lot from the early days but after so long think it might be just how it is for me. CRAP. I started my BC JOURNEY (ha ha) a young person and came out the other end an old lady. I'll just shuffle along now...4Views1like0CommentsRe: HIT - the wall
Thanks Mira - I just need to get over it. I am fine most days, but the bad days seem to be a bit more often at moment - maybe because I am a bit stressed. I do find it embarrassing when I am with friends though. Pre treatment I only slept about 5-7 hrs and never during the day. Am getting older though I suppose. Pam22Views1like0CommentsHIT - the wall
I finished treatment a about 4 years ago, coming up to my 4 1/2 yr post diagnosis, not doing to badly apart from my feet and tiredness. This weekend I fought against having an afternoon nap when I hit the wall, I went for a short walk (just 10 mins), I tried to do some sewing (that ended up in the bin, stuffed it totally) and by 8.30pm I gave in...and couldn't sleep. Tossed and turned and finally got to sleep. Woke a couple of times through night and dragged myself out of bed at 8am. Woke lethargic, achy, boobs sore, arm sore, back sore, legs sore, throat sore, bloody itchy. Great I am coming down with something. Let myself have an avo nap (21/2 hrs ?nap?) Woke much better, and am fine today. Slept well last night. Oh boy. Go back down to GP and get bloodwork done - iron, thyroid, diabetes, etc etc - AGAIN. No nothing wrong. So what do you do, just accept it. Laugh when you have friends over and I have to have a nana nap...yeah have to laugh or I'd cry.203Views1like11CommentsRe: The wait is frustrating and worrying. And so many questions!
Hi there. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. So much great advice here isn't there? I would just say stop researching about the treatments, your oncologist will guide you with these. They will recommend what treatment to have. The financial side, you seem to of been given a fair bit of info already, I like the idea of touching base with some kind of social worker who you can get to know, and if you need help you will already have a foot in the door. It sounds like you are trying to be organized, try to stop, you can't organize cancer. The goal post can and do change without warning. More than likely you will breeze through treatment with minimal days off work (if that is what you want.)42Views1like0Comments
