I confess - I have a potty mouth - Sorry - Blame it on my years in the military. Half the time I don't even realise I am doing it, but it is used to emphasize a point not to abuse or bully someone. so as much as I might try I won't always get it right so forgive me if I slip up... yes i I can avoid swearing in front of my mum (she is 93) but in an online environment we are not as familiar with people's likes and dislikes so it is more difficult to know what is and isn't acceptable. We are all here for the same reason to support each other, we are bound by Breast Cancer - we feel each other's fears, pain and struggles as we would our own because of that unique bond. Under normal circumstances many of us would not be friends be cause we are all different.... different experiences, expectations and values. so as much as we expect others to modify their behaviour so we don't offend, we should also be tolerant of those differences and cut people a bit of slack if they don't get it right. Going through treatment is tough and we need each other, but we also need to recognize that pain, lack of sleep and stress can play havoc with how we respond to things - sometimes we just need to take a breath and have a break. if we witness any abuse or poor behaviour perhaps we can be brave and respectfully call it as it is or seek support from BCNA if we feel the need. We all have bad days so let's try, tolerance, forgiveness and patience as our first point of reference as often we don't know what else is happening in someone's life... and BC is a really shitty card to deal with.Re: A big thank you to mum2jj

Hi there - ditto to all the comments above - I was also high grade dcis - had a lumpectomy as biopsy was not conclusive and still ended up with mastectomy as the area was so large... better to be safe than sorry... painkillers, and sleeping will be the two things you will need to consider if you are going away ... if you can manage it it will probably do you the world of good .. I slept propped up with lots of pillows for several weeks... you may may want to join the closed group on the network for "Choosing Breast Reconstruction" as you may find some more specific info on your recovery helpful. @alpal can you give some info re airexpander recovery? all the best ChrisRe: Bi lateral mastectomy/ options when cancer only in 1 breast
Hi Chrissy I elected to have bilateral and immediate recon as I had strong family history (not tested for the gene) and given my situation my surgeon supported that decision. one thing to consider in the immediate vs delayed recon is wait times if you are public... if if you want to explore the options available in relation to reconstruction and view some members photo stories with the different procedures there is a closed group on this network "Choosing Breast Reconstruction" which may provide a useful resource if you are contemplating all of your options. I was public in SA - I had bmx with immediate recon - I think this reduced my wait times overall - so in Total I had 10 ops that were various categories 1 - 3 I think the longest I was on a list for any procedure was 6 months. of greater concern was the time between suspect mammogram to bmx which was 4 months for a variety of reasons ...
