Where to get the most comfortable bras

Options
My breasts are now a different size and my current bras are becoming uncomfortable.
I'd welcome recommendations about where I might go in Melbourne to get both a thoughtful and caring service as well as a comfortable and useful bra.

Hi @JuMuKu, I'm not in Melbourne but do know that my breast care nurse was a wealth of information and was even able to give me a list of fitters for bras including a mobile service that fitted people at home. I'm sure that the other ladies will be on to help but at least your breast care nurse is a good starting point. Xx Cath

    @melclarity

Melinda has had success with a new fitter recently, from Melbourne - hopefully she'll come on this morning and give you the name and contact

Genevieve Gort is a personal bra and breast form specialist.  She has a fantastic range of bras, although some quite expensive.  I saw her last week for my breast form (prosethis)...dont think thats the right spelling!!!  I found that for night time Im very comfortable in Best and Less slip on bras, which come with removable inserts...only cost $10 !!  Im very comfortable in my Berlie post mastectomy bra.  Genevieve gave me a tip to remove the stuffing from the insert...so comfortable now!!

I am in NSW, but found the mastectomy fitter in David Jones was lovely, caring and thoughtful. They have a dedicated change room for fitting, as do Myer in Qld pacific Fair (I was on holiday there), so possibly they have the same in other states.
I had a lady come to the house with my prosthesis and found she carried by far the best range of bras as she had every style of Amoena in just about every colour.
Wonderful service, caring, down to earth and though some were very expensive, I just said I had to pace myself and get the most practical ones first. She totally understood.
She also had the form to fill out to claim the prosthesis from Medicare too.

Best and Less have zip front bras in soft cottony material and the stronger sports bra type material as well as the pull on over the head crop types if you aren't too big.
I am wearing the zip front one while I go through radiation as it is nice and soft. They have the removable padding and you can put the Berlei soft form in the pocket. I find the regular prosthesis a bit heavy for the crop type bras though they fit, they pull them down too much, the soft form is fine though.
Target have two styles that take the prosthesis, both quite comfortable, if not at all stylish,  but getting your size is very hit and miss, they never have a good range at my store. Good price though.

@jumuku hello! I hope you are well! thanks @iserbrown YES I recommended Genevieve Gort about a month ago and I see that @LisaO has also had the pleasure of seeing her last week.
Here is the thread I posted some pics of the bras, honestly they look fantastic, they give me support like I wouldn't have thought as have no underwire, they are fashionable too. Yes they are a little expensive, but Genevieve is so great, she has fillers if required, a world of knowledge of mastectomy and reconstruction as is a registered Nurse, she is incredibly personable and helpful. I was able to claim through private health some of the cost as I needed a surgical bra as the post op Amoena is rubbish! lol she had a much better one and I cannot believe how comfy it is. Love it! and cannot speak highly enough of her.

@Jumuku so to reply to anyone, you put the @ sign and start to type their name and it will come up, click on it and then continue typing your message. These crops are KMART 2 for $15, so comfy and I've used them for a year post op, you just slide the inserts out. I was recommended these by the hospital too. :) Melinda

I have an appointment with Genevieve tomorrow, can't wait! I was given some daggy filling to place inside the post surgery berlei bra needless to say I haven't bothered wearing it. Genevieve is going to fit me with a soft form prosthesis and a more stylish comfortable bra to start with and then once I have healed from my surgery she will do the fitting for my normal prosthesis etc. Genevieve is highly recommended by the team at Epworth and of course our own @melclarity ;)

    Hi @JuMuKu & others

Did you know that as a breast cancer survivor/ thriver you can get a 50% discount on Berlie bras at their online store (well anything on their site actually)    Just ask your local breast care nurse for the code.  They have an excellent return policy if you happen to select a bra that doesn’t fit, or is uncomfortable.  They include a sticker in package to attach to the bag your bra/s came in. You can get a refund or swap for another size or bras.  I’ve found a number of bras that suit me well - but then I have been wearing Berlie bras for decades as they suit me well.

It’s a prettty generous discount and their bras last really well.  Happy online shopping

Target have some reasonably priced post surgery bras - I initially bought front opening ones which I found annoying to put on and off during radiotherapy and they would open spontaneously . I later switched to a tshirt style bra and am very happy . They offer comfort and support. My new ones surprised me as I am bigger cup size - they have narrower straps than I would normally buy but are great.TBH would wear these bras even if I didn't have bc surgery.

I admit after 6yrs of being on this path, having used alot of different options from stores and even Berlei, but NOTHING and I mean that without a doubt has come close to the bras I got fitted with. I was literally only out of pocket about $150 for 4 bras. After the hard yards these last few years I decided at the end of my mastectomy/recon I was going to get properly fitted. Best investment I've made honestly. x
